Description
Huperzine A is a naturally occurring alkaloid found firm moss (clubmoss) and some other herbs. As an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor it increases acetylcholine by slowing its breakdown. In this way it can be used by itself to increase acetylcholine or to increase the effectiveness of other supplements and is often an ingredient in many workout and supplement mixtures.
Huperzine A 1% generally comes in two versions, a 1% extract from the Huperzia Serrata plant which is normally brown, or because of the increasing scarcity of Huperzia serrata plant, manufactured pure Huperzine A mixed with a pharmaceutical filler (e.g. white dextrin).
A 1% mixture is generally chosen because measuring 200ug of pure extract would require expensive laboratory scales which isn't practical for home use.

Serving Suggestion: 10-20mg 1-2 times a Day (20mg of 1% = 200ug)
While Huperzine A seems to have little side effects, due to the strength of this product it is advised use accurate mg scales (0.001g) when measuring a serving as 20mg is a very small amount - A scoop measure is not very accurate.
To make measuring easier, one way is to make up a batch of say 100 servings along with other supplements such as:
- 2g Huperzine A 1% (20mg/serve)
- 25g Choline supplement (Alpha GPC, CDP Choline, Choline Citrate)
Now 1 serving is a much easier to measure 270mg.

What is the quality or concentration?
1% Extract is the standard normally sold for consumer use. You can get higher concentrations like 99%, but they will be very difficult to measure.

Huperzine A is ‘Not suitable for children under 15 years of age or pregnant women: Should only be used under medical or dietetic supervision’. As a single compound, ‘it is not intended as a sole source of nutrition and should be consumed in conjunction with a nutritious diet and in conjunction with an appropriate physical training or exercise program'.
